Cross-referencing a discrete semiconductor is not just matching a part number. Two devices with the same number prefix can differ in test conditions, package thermal capability and qualification status. This guide gives you a five-step method for safe replacement.
Step 1 — Define the Critical Electrical Parameters
Start from your circuit, not from the old part number. List the parameters that actually matter: breakdown voltage, current rating, forward voltage, reverse recovery time, capacitance and clamping behavior. Step 2 — Check the Package and Thermal Path

Step 3 — Compare Qualification and Reliability Class
